Bismarck Retirement Plan Advisor Courtney Berger and Retirement Plan Administrator Alexis Ternes complement each other like sunglasses and smiles on a sunny day. Their positivity is infectious, and together they work to ensure every client enters retirement with the same sense of joy and optimism.
How long have you worked together?
Courtney: Two years.
Alexis: Courtney and I have worked together for almost two years! I started as an intern during my first year and now I've transitioned to full-time after graduating last spring.
Why did you choose "sunglasses and smiles" for your pairing?
Courtney: Both sunglasses and smiles are associated with positivity and good times, like sunny days or vacations—two things Alexis and I personally enjoy. They can evoke happy memories or feelings of relaxation, which are qualities we bring to our client relationships. Smiling is a universal sign of friendliness and approachability, and that’s exactly what we strive to show every client. We create a lighthearted, joyful atmosphere that makes retirement planning feel less overwhelming and more enjoyable. Seeing our clients thrive in retirement by traveling, pursuing hobbies and spending time with loved ones brings immense joy to both Alexis and me.
Alexis: We both have a deep love for summertime, sunshine and straight-up happiness—hence our big smiles! I guess you could say we wear the shades because of how cool our jobs are. Retirement planning is a blast!
How does working together help you better serve customers?
Courtney: Alexis and I bring different strengths that complement one another. Our shared positivity and teamwork allow us to create a welcoming, supportive experience for clients. We make retirement planning approachable by building strong, trusting relationships—and having fun while doing it!
Alexis: With Courtney’s ability to reach new clients and bring business to our team, I’m able to support and serve those clients alongside her once they come on board. We’re both passionate about delivering the best possible service through hard work and dedication. Together, we bring joy and a personal touch to both our workplace and our relationships with clients.
What's your favorite thing about your community?
Courtney: My favorite thing is the strong sense of connection and support. It’s heartwarming to see neighbors, coworkers and even strangers helping one another—whether through small acts of kindness or coming together during events and challenges. Local gatherings create lasting memories and make our community feel like home.
Alexis: I love the community events we host and attend. There are always opportunities to meet new people and build connections. I’ve also really fallen in love with how family-oriented both Bravera and Bismarck are.
What do you do for fun together at work?
Courtney: Celebrations and treats! Our team loves recognizing birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and milestones with homemade goodies and creative touches. You can almost always find something delicious on the Retirement Planning Services treat table. And Alexis’s grandma spoils us with her amazing homemade treats—she’s the best!
Alexis: When Courtney’s not taking us down back roads to new locations, we enjoy our weekly meetups and client visits. Our team also loves grabbing Chick-fil-A and occasionally we treat ourselves to Friday boba tea for a sweet afternoon pick-me-up!
