Bravera Bank

You Have Fraud on Your Account — Now What?

Financial fraud has always been a threat to businesses. As technology advances, fraud is becoming more sophisticated. Considering the impact of fraud, Bravera is here to help you if your business has been affected.

If you encounter fraudulent check activity, your first course of action is to report it to the bank as soon as the fraud is detected. Fraud protection tools are essential to protect your business from substantial financial losses. Bravera offers Positive Pay, a service that helps business owners protect their operations from check fraud by matching the details of checks presented for payment against a list of approved payments. This service ensures that only legitimate transactions are processed, providing business owners with peace of mind. With Positive Pay, you can focus on growing your operation, knowing your financial security is protected.

If your business has encountered ACH fraud, report it to the bank immediately. Using ACH filters can protect your business against ACH fraud. ACH filters are a fraud prevention tool that allows businesses to monitor ACH debits and credits posting to your accounts giving them the ability to decide whether to pay or return those transactions.

If your business debit card, bill pay, or external fund transfer have been compromised, report this to the bank right away. We can only dispute items going back 60 calendar days from the day you are reporting fraud. When the fraud center detects a high fraud score and creates a case on a debit card, the fraud department will attempt to contact you via text message, email and phone call. It is important that your contact information is current with Bravera. After your initial report has been made, all communication will be conducted via email or mail —if no email is on fileIf non-fraud activity is experienced using your debit card, you’ll need to reach out to the merchant first. We require a copy of the communication with the merchant along with a copy of order receipts to show what was ordered. Please note that resolving a disputed charge may take 45 to 90 days.

If you have wired money to a scammer, contact the bank immediately. Wiring money is like sending cash —once it’s gone, it may not be recoverable. It is important to remember only to wire money to people you know. You can also report fraudulent wire transfers to the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-382-4357 or online at ftc.gov/complaint. The FTC uses complaints to build cases against scammers. Any information you can give helps investigators.

If you believe you have fallen victim to any type of cybercrime, report it to the bank and file a complaint at ic3.gov. The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a central hub for reporting cyber-enabled crime. Its mission is to provide the public and private sector with a mechanism to submit information to the FBI concerning suspected cyber-facilitated criminal activity and to develop effective alliances with law enforcement and industry partners. Information is analyzed and disseminated for investigative and intelligence purposes to law enforcement and for public awareness.

Scammers have no limitations when it comes to the way they approach people. In the event you receive suspicious emails, text messages, or phone calls, do not respond or provide any personal information. Instead, reach out to a trusted Bravera Bank advisor.
